Abstract
Considering the wide and effective application of concrete in building, construction and infrastructure projects, improving the quality and durability of concrete has been of high interest to researchers. In this research, with the aim of improving the compressive and abrasive strength of concrete by changing its constructive materials, the properties of concrete consisting of corundum-bearing lateritic aggregates (emery) are investigated. For this purpose, after mixing of cement, water and lateritic aggregates, blocks with dimensions 15 × 15 × 15 cm are made. Experiments have been conducted to determine the compressive strength, Schmidt hardness, ultrasonic waves velocity and abrasion resistance of concrete block. According to the results, application of lateritic aggregates has led to a significant increase in compressive strength and consequently abrasion resistance of the blocks due to its high hardness and strength. The maximum compressive strength of concrete at 28 days was 51.37 Mpa. Also, the lateritic aggregate concrete had a Schmidt hardness recurrence number of about 50 and was proportional to the uniaxial compressive strength. On the other hand, with aging of the blocks, the velocity of ultrasonic waves increased and the wear percentage was 0.13, which is about 0.35% for similar samples with ordinary aggregates (river aggregates). Generally, according to the properties of concrete used in concrete coatings and pavements, an appropriate application is estimated.
